Tuesday 27 January marks “Holocaust Remembrance Day”, established by the Italian Parliament with Law No. 211 of 20 July 2000. It commemorates the persecution of the Jewish people, the racial laws, the deportation of Italian prisoners, and the imprisonment and death of those who opposed the extermination plan. This date serves as a reminder and a call to continued civic responsibility, so that such tragedies are never repeated.
On this occasion, the Cagliari State Archives is organising an exhibition. It aims to reflect on the atrocity of the racial laws and to remember the victims of the Shoah through written testimonies preserved in its archival holdings.
Documents will be displayed illustrating the forms of discrimination suffered by Jewish citizens in Sardinia during the 1930s and 1940s. These developments followed the enactment of the racial laws.
The exhibition will be open on Tuesday 27 January at the Cagliari State Archives, Via Gallura 2.
Admission is free, with no booking required, from 9 am to 5 pm
