Public and Institutional Relations

Reception, information and institutional relations serving the archival community

1. The role of institutional relations

Relationship-building activities are a central function of the Cagliari State Archives and underpin all the Institution’s other activities. Through welcoming, information provision and ongoing dialogue with the outside world, the Archives ensures a stable point of contact between the documentary heritage, citizens and institutions. This role goes beyond public assistance to encompass all the relationships required to support the protection, preservation, and enhancement of the archives, in keeping with the Institution’s public mandate.

2. Visitor reception and assistance

The Archive provides reception and guidance services for citizens, scholars, and professionals, offering information on available services, access procedures, and the most suitable pathways for different needs. This role helps make the Institution accessible and understandable, facilitating initial contact and guiding visitors to the appropriate services, facilities, and contacts.

3. Relations with organisations and institutions

The Cagliari State Archives maintains ongoing relations with public organisations, government administrations, cultural institutions and actors within the national archival system. These relations are essential for coordinating protection activities, managing archives produced by public organisations and carrying out shared initiatives. Through institutional dialogue, the Archive serves as a link between documentary creation, preservation, and enhancement, ensuring coherence, continuity, and compliance with current regulations.

4. Relations with depositing bodies

A substantial part of the Archive’s engagement focuses on supporting organisations and individuals who produce, hold, or wish to deposit archives and documents of historical significance. The Institution offers information and guidance on procedures for transfer, deposit, or donation, supporting public organisations and private individuals in line with the standards and criteria for safeguarding archival heritage. This area contributes to the growth and safeguarding of the documentary heritage, ensuring that sources are properly preserved and made available over time.

5. Contact channels and references

Relationship activities are based on clear and transparent contact channels, enabling citizens, organisations and institutions to interact with the Archives correctly and effectively. The website’s contact section provides the references needed for:

  • general information requests
  • institutional relations
  • help with services
  • communications relating to deposits and collaborations
