On Tuesday 10 March at 4:00 p.m., the conference room of the Cagliari State Archives will host the meeting Women and Nation: rereading the Risorgimento in the light of 8 March and 17 March.

The event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the importance of women’s role and their active participation in historical processes. Two significant dates will link the discussion: 8 March, International Women’s Day, and 17 March, the Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.

Bringing the two commemorations together makes it possible to consider the history of Italy and the value of women’s contribution to social and civil causes, collective memory and the need for a national historical narrative that does not overlook women’s contribution.

Speakers will include Nicoletta Bazzano, lecturer at the University of Cagliari — Department of Literature, Languages and Cultural Heritage, and Anna Maria Isastia, formerly a lecturer at Sapienza University of Rome, and Marco Pignotti, lecturer at the University of Cagliari — Department of Literature, Languages and Cultural Heritage. The meeting will be introduced and moderated by Enrico Trogu, Director of the Cagliari State Archives.
