The State Archives of Cagliari promotes the knowledge, circulation and reuse of content published through its digital channels, in compliance with applicable legislation, third-party rights and the provisions governing cultural heritage.
The conditions of use may vary depending on the nature and origin of each individual resource.
Content produced by the Archives
General licence
Unless otherwise stated, original content produced by the State Archives of Cagliari and published on the website is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International – CC BY 4.0 licence.
The licence allows content to be shared and adapted, including for commercial purposes, subject to the conditions set out in the licence and, in particular, the requirement to provide appropriate attribution.
The general licence does not automatically apply to:
- reproductions of cultural heritage assets and archival documents;
- content for which a different licence or condition of use is indicated;
- third-party materials;
- logos, coats of arms and other distinctive signs.
How to provide attribution
When reusing content subject to the CC BY 4.0 licence, the source must be appropriately acknowledged.
Where possible, the attribution should include:
State Archives of Cagliari – Ministry of Culture
and a link to the original page or resource.
If the content includes the name of an author or additional attribution information, such information must be retained.
Modifications and adaptations
The CC BY 4.0 licence allows content to which it applies to be modified and adapted.
When content is modified, adapted or integrated with other material, it is necessary to indicate that changes have been made and not to attribute to the State Archives of Cagliari statements or interpretations deriving solely from the adaptation.
Content subject to specific conditions
Reproductions of archival heritage
The reproductions of documents and other cultural heritage assets held by the State Archives of Cagliari are not automatically covered by the general CC BY 4.0 licence.
Their reproduction and use are governed by the Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, applicable legislation and any conditions associated with the individual resource.
The possibility of reproducing, publishing or using images depends, among other things, on:
- the nature of the asset;
- its consultation status;
- the possible existence of third-party rights;
- the purpose of use;
- the provisions applicable to the reproduction of cultural heritage assets.

Photographs and multimedia materials
Photographs, videos, audio recordings and other multimedia materials produced by the Archives may be used in accordance with the licence indicated for the individual resource or, where no different indication is provided and the relevant conditions are met, under the general licence set out on this page.
Images that constitute reproductions of cultural heritage assets are instead subject to the conditions applicable to the reproduction of archival heritage.
Third-party content
The website may host texts, photographs, videos, documents or other materials belonging to parties other than the State Archives of Cagliari.
Such resources retain the conditions of use and any rights established by their respective rights holders.
The publication of content on the Archives’ website does not therefore, in itself, imply that it may be freely reproduced, modified or reused.
Where possible, the source and the applicable conditions are indicated alongside the resource.
Logos and distinctive signs
The general CC BY 4.0 licence does not apply to the logo of the Ministry of Culture, coats of arms, trademarks, logos of the Archives or its initiatives, or any other distinctive signs appearing on the website.
Their use is subject to the applicable specific provisions and must not suggest sponsorship, endorsement or institutional relationships that do not exist.
