Exhibitions and events

Exhibitions, meetings and events that tell stories and foster dialogue between the Archives and the local community

1. What our service is about

Exhibitions and events are one of the main ways the Cagliari State Archives expresses its role as a cultural institution open to the community. Through exhibitions, public meetings, seminars and related initiatives, the Archives enhances its documentary heritage and makes it accessible to non-specialist audiences. The exhibitions and events service makes it possible to turn archival documents into opportunities for storytelling, deeper insight and exchange. It encourages active engagement with historical sources and promotes dialogue between research, the local community and the public. The initiatives can be conceived and implemented directly by the Institution or developed together with organisations, universities, cultural associations and other public and private bodies, bearing in mind the Archive's institutional mission.

2. Types of initiatives

The exhibition and cultural activity of the Cagliari State Archives includes several types of event:

  • Internal and external documentary exhibitions devoted to fonds, historical themes, anniversaries or research projects;
  • Scholarly or public meetings and seminars for researchers, students and members of the public;
  • Meetings and presentations relating to publications, research projects or institutional initiatives;
  • Cultural and educational events designed to introduce the public to the archival heritage through accessible language and thematic routes.

Each initiative is designed with careful attention to scholarly rigour, source accuracy and clarity of communication.

3. Cultural mission and public value

Exhibitions and events do not have an ancillary function, but form an integral part of the work of enhancing the archival heritage. Through these activities, the Archive:

  • promote knowledge of the institutional, social and economic history of the local area;
  • support research and the dissemination of scholarly knowledge;
  • encourage cultural participation and informed access to sources;
  • strengthen their role as a meeting place for documents, people and communities.

In this perspective, the Archives is a living memory, capable of engaging with the present and contributing actively to cultural production.

4. Collaborations and shared initiatives

The Cagliari State Archives promote and welcome proposals for collaboration on exhibitions and events consistent with their institutional objectives. Joint initiatives provide an opportunity to connect different skills, resources and perspectives, increasing the cultural impact of the activities. Collaboration arrangements are assessed case by case in accordance with scholarly, organisational and heritage protection criteria.
