The physical position of an archival unit (see) within its container and repository, expressed by its archival reference code. For practical reasons, some types of archival unit may be stored separately from the other units belonging to the same archive, for example registers, balance sheets and final accounts. In such cases, their relationship—the archival bond (see)—is maintained through appropriate references in the description.
