The Diplomatic, faithful to the original spirit that determined its birth and spread among scholars in the seventeenth century, is the discipline that aims to study a document, in its internal characteristics and in its external capacity, to ensure its authenticity.
The teaching of “Diplomatics”, traditionally present in the formative path of the archivists, focuses on the forms assumed by the public and private medieval document, with attention reserved to the procedures of production and the legal and cultural context in which it was born.
In the study of the notary production and that of the papal and imperial stationaries – the greatest of their time – is accompanied, with great attention, the deepening of the document produced in the stationery of the Catalan-Aragonese rulers, whose testimonies the State Archive of Cagliari is rich.
