A division of a classification scheme (see), identified by a Roman or Arabic numeral, a letter of the alphabet or an alphanumeric symbol. A category is an abstract division derived from an analysis of the organisation’s functions, though it does not necessarily coincide with a single function: it may correspond to a subject, a type of record, etc. It may in turn be divided into subcategories.
